Alcoa and Alcoa Foundation Annual 2011 Giving Totals $38 Million
Foundation Commits $1.1 Million to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Education and Workforce Development in Recognition of International Corporate Philanthropy Day
Alcoa (NYSE:AA) and Alcoa Foundation announced combined community giving of $38 million in 2011, compared with more than $36.8 million in 2010. The annual giving was publicized today in recognition of International Corporate Philanthropy Day, which acknowledges businesses for their achievements in corporate philanthropy.
“International Corporate Philanthropy Day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to a model of ‘shared value creation,’ where together with governments, businesses, civic groups and our employees, we engage in work that makes communities stronger for us all,” said Paula Davis, President, Alcoa Foundation.

Innovation unleashed on ICPD as The Allstate Foundation turns 60 years old
The Allstate Foundation will use International Corporate Philanthropy Day to kick off its 60th anniversary celebration by inviting Allstate employees to identify innovative community service organizations across the country.
A 1952 memo to Allstate managers introduced the newly formed Allstate Foundation: “We owe the community and nation from which we derive our livelihood all the reasonable philanthropic assistance we can give. Any corporation or individual that does not discharge its social responsibility is indeed shortsighted.”
Since then, The Allstate Foundation has invested nearly $300 million in a variety of community organizations and services across the country.

General Mills Survey on Volunteering: People are Engaged!
General Mills is celebrating International Corporate Philanthropy Day by releasing the results of the company’s global volunteer survey that shows that employees, no matter where they work around the world, are engaged in making a difference in their communities. In the U.S., where volunteerism has been a long tradition, 83 percent of GMI employees volunteer – that number rose slightly from the 82 percent reported in a 2009 companywide survey. Outside of the U.S. where volunteerism is generally not a prominent cultural tradition, 51 percent of General Mills employees volunteer – representing a baseline or starting point for measuring volunteerism in the company’s international communities.

Meritor “Power of Volunteering” Acts as Philanthropic Catalyst

Microsoft Milestone: $100m Employee Giving Campaign
If you visit one of Microsoft’s locations in the United States during October you might find an employee’s office filled with pink flamingos or an office transformed from a place of work to an amphitheater for a keenly fought game of rock, paper, scissors. These are just a couple of examples of the hundreds of creative fundraising activities that make up Microsoft’s employee giving campaign.
The 2011 campaign was the largest year of employee giving since the program began in 1983, and Microsoft recently announced that $100.5 million had been donated and matched for community organizations and nonprofits, bringing the total amount of money raised by Microsoft employees to $946 million since our giving program started in 1983.

Raising Awareness for the Benefits of Service Dogs This year, through Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow education program, Samsung will gift its sixth assistance dog to a school in the U.S. with the help of the National Education for Assistance Dog Services (NEADS). For almost 35 years, NEADS/Dogs for Deaf and Disabled has trained over 1,300 assistance dog teams and set the industry standard for assistance dogs. Samsung teams with NEADS to pair the winning school of the Solve for Tomorrow contest with an assistance dog that will aid students and their educational experience.
In celebration of ICPD, Samsung is aiming to raise awareness among employees about its partnership with NEADS and the benefits these dogs bring to children and adults with disabilities.

The State Farm Youth Advisory Board (YAB), is unique in the corporate world. It was established in 2006 with the mission of empowering youth to play a leading role in improving public K-12 education through service-learning and creating sustainable change in local communities across the United States and Canada. To date, the YAB has granted 329 projects in communities across the U.S. and Canada, impacting an estimated 14.1 million people. For 2012, and in recognition of ICPD, the YAB will be implementing a new grant opportunity for 40 communities to receive a $25,000 grant to improve their community.

Travelers Community Support Reaches More than $21 Million
In recognition of International Corporate Philanthropy Day, The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV) today released its first digital Community Giving Report, “In Their Own Words,” reinforcing the company’s commitment to economic opportunity through interviews with employees, nonprofits, students, and executives. Highlights of the 2011 Community Annual Giving Report include:
