Global Corporate Giving Initiative

Launching International Valuation Guidelines

**Thank You to Everyone Who Provided Feedback**

Overview

To support the global expansion of the corporate giving field, CECP launched the Global Corporate Giving Initiative (the Global Initiative) in 2010 with assistance from Deloitte to create an internationally-relevant measurement framework.  The initial phases of this work included extensive tax, finance, and legal research to understand the areas of consensus and disagreement across nations as to what organization types and contribution types are recognized as charitable giving.

The purpose of these webpages is to share the background and research process for the Global Initiative and, most importantly, the initial Proposed Global Valuation Guidance that has resulted from the project thus far.   The aim is to solicit practitioner feedback that will improve and sharpen the concepts and language of the proposed guidance. Once the valuation guidance is final, anticipated for June 2012, it will be used as the basis for the development of an online reporting and benchmarking system designed specifically for corporate giving measurement among Fortune Global 2000 companies.

Project Purpose and Goals

The purpose of the Global Initiative is to provide companies that engage in multinational grant-making with one succinct, unchanging definition for what counts as a charitable gift.  Additionally, the project will offer specific, written guidance as to how to use and apply the definition.  These tools will not only support robust tracking and measurement of a company’s complete international giving activity, but can be used to advance transparency, the sharing of best practices, and the aggregation of total giving across companies in order to illuminate how industry trends are changing over time.

Your Role

On this site you will find Proposed Global Valuation Guidance and a Feedback Form in addition to background information on the Global Initiative.  Please use this opportunity to help refine the language and concepts underpinning the proposed guidance as an investment in building an invaluable reporting and benchmarking resource for the field.  Individuals interested in continuing their involvement in later stages of the project are encouraged to indicate their decision to stay involved in the feedback form.
