November 10, 2011 -- On November 3, over 80 nonprofit, corporate and government leaders gathered on Capitol Hill to celebrate a milestone for A Billion + Change, a national campaign to mobilize billions of dollars in skills-based volunteer services to address community needs across the country and around the globe. The event recognized the more than 50 companies that have pledged more than $1 billion in skills-based and pro bono services, such as CECP member companies Allstate, Capital One, Deloitte, GE, Hasbro, IBM, Intel, JPMorgan Chase & Co., KPMG, Morgan Stanley, Pfizer, State Farm, Target and Wal-Mart. As the Executive Director of A Billion + Change, it was exciting to see the many civic and corporate leaders mobilizing for the campaign.

Senator Mark Warner, honorary chairman of the campaign, said, “From helping nonprofits with job training programs or with improving access to health and education services, to providing support for IT infrastructure and board development, skills-based volunteering is still about workers giving time to their community.”

“What is so powerful about A Billion + Change is that it is inspiring companies of all sizes, in multiple industries, to step up their commitments to contributing business skills and knowledge to nonprofits in need,” said Barry Salzberg, Global CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited.

Morgan Stanley has joined the campaign as a way to expand its signature pro bono program, the Strategy Challenge. “By joining the A Billion + Change campaign, we are expressing our confidence in our pro bono program to deliver high-impact, transformative advice to our nonprofit partners in the years ahead," said Joan Steinberg, Head of Community Affairs at Morgan Stanley.

“State Farm® is pleased to support A Billion + Change. We look forward to working with our fellow CECP member organizations around the country to encourage more pro bono and skills based volunteering as we all work to make our communities better.” Edward B. Rust Jr., Chairman and CEO State Farm.

Deloitte, a nationally recognized leader in corporate citizenship, has also joined the campaign to support a scaling of skills-based volunteerism. In the months ahead, A Billion + Change will be working with pledge companies and thought leader organizations like CECP to encourage businesses to join the campaign and help make a lasting impact on society.
